KAYAKING TO THE MOKULUA ISLANDS

Our kayaking trip from Ouah to Twin Islands was nothing short of amazing. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, clear, shimmering waters, lush green landscapes, and the peaceful rhythm of our paddles cutting through the waves. It felt like we had stepped into a postcard.

We started our adventure at Lanikai Beach, using the Lanikai Beach Public Access Pathway to bring our rented kayaks to the water. If you ever visit, take some time to enjoy Lanikai Beach, it was absolutely beautiful, with soft white sand and stunning turquoise waters.

We rented our tandem kayak from Go Bananas Kayaks and used our Jeep rental to transport it. The team at Go Bananas was incredibly helpful, assisting us with securing the kayak on top of our car and providing all the necessary instructions for our trip. Their guidance made the whole process smooth and stress-free.

But just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, nature threw us a curveball. Out of nowhere, dark clouds rolled in, and before we knew it, the wind picked up and the waves turned choppy. What started as a peaceful paddle suddenly became an intense battle against the current. Every stroke felt like a fight, and there were moments when we questioned whether we’d actually make it back. To make things even more intense, our kayak flipped at one point, sending us scrambling to get back on and unfortunately, we lost a pair of sunglasses to the depths. A small price to pay for an unforgettable adventure!

Despite the struggle, we wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. The challenge made the adventure even more unforgettable, and the feeling of finally reaching shore, soaked, exhausted, but grinning from ear to ear was unbeatable.

This trip wasn’t just about kayaking; it was about embracing the unexpected, pushing our limits, and soaking in the wild beauty of nature. And honestly? We’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

As we paddled along, we spotted seals sprawled out on sun-warmed rocks, lazily soaking up the rays. They barely acknowledged us, we couldn’t help but laugh at how relaxed they were. The real magic happened when we decided to take a break and snorkel after a short hike through the island. Beneath the surface, an underwater paradise unfolded before us, vibrant fish darting through coral, shimmering in the sunlight filtering through the water. It was surreal. Thankfully, we had our snorkeling masks and water shoes, which were essential for exploring the underwater world comfortably.
